Wedding Song

by Dave Lucas

Our bodies and our minds,
our stores and wares,
mouths and hands,
all we’ve said and done
and all we might do.
All our hoarded earthly goods,
the hearth, the food,
the mess and waste,
the half-drunk glass of wine,
orts and grist.
I and Thou, me and you,
the words we speak, and those
that cannot be unsaid—and these.
All our ands and ors,
the bed we made,
the furnaces we feed,
all our knives in all our drawers.
